Miyamoto working hard on new Nintendo IP

Nintendo icon and senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto is working on a new franchise for Wii U, as revealed in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu (via Polygon).

Miyamoto is confident in the upcoming Wii U line-up, but is hard at work in bringing gamers a new franchise.

"I hope people are looking forward to the games coming up," said Miyamoto. "We'll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we'll have the whole line-up in place, so I think it's about time we brought out a new franchise. I can't give out details, but that's the title that's been keeping me pretty busy lately."

Nintendo's first-party Wii U line-up for 2013 is comprised of Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Mario Kart 8.

Notably, while the interview makes it sound like a Wii U game, Miyamoto does not explicitly state whether the new franchise is for the Wii U or 3DS, or both.

    Nintendo doesn't do new.

They haven't had a real new franchise since GameCube. The Wii series doesn't count.

I'm worried it'll be more rubbish like that.

Hopefully a game for both consoles, I still don't want to buy a Wii U just yet.

Steel Diver? Dillon's Rolling Western? Xenoblade (and the other two Wii games that came out 2012)? Pushmo? Nintendo makes new IP's all the time, with at least 5 in the past 2 years, but people completely pass these by.

It's obvious people whining about the lack of new IP's want some crappy FPS or a "new" RPG (some DQ/FF or Elder Scrolls derivative, as all "new" RPG's are today). Otherwise I can't really tell what these people have in mind, they obviously aren't buying any of the new IP's they're clamoring for. [Facepalm]

I don't think Nintendo own those IPs. In fact, I'm pretty sure they don't. They just published in some regions.
