'I don't know why Iwata is still employed' - Pachter

Outspoken industry analyst Michael Pachter has unleashed on Nintendo's failure to take advantage of its underutilised massive back catalogue with mobile gaming, and questions why Nintendo president Satoru Iwata still has a job.

"I don't know why Iwata is still employed," Pachter told Gamesindustry.biz in reference to Nintendo missing a massive revenue source by not expanding into mobile gaming — he thinks Nintendo should sell old Game Boy Advance and DS games on phones for US $3 to $5 — while the Wii U struggles.

Pachter expects the Wii U to sell a maximum of 30 million units during its lifetime, and the PS4 and Xbox One to sell around 110 million each.

I think conditioning consumers to think of their franchises as throw away $3 mobile games would kill Nintendo off in the long run.

Yes. Let's see even more games released on smartphone and tablets.

The last thing a company like Nintendo should be doing is cutting itself a piece of the "mobile pie", essentially cutting the lunch of every would-be developer cutting their teeth in the mobile space. -_-

Maybe Iwata's employment has something to do with the DS selling over 150 million units, the Wii selling over 100 million units and the 3ds being the best selling peice of hardware for most of 2013. But hey, Wii u is struggling so let's fire the guy! [Shifty]

At least he's coming up with some good ideas unlike Nintendo.

Nintendo are going down the wrong path.

Putting Nintendo games on mobile devices is not a good idea.

Seriously though, I agree with sjt333. this guy gets paid to say shit like this is amazing.

Nintendo have their handheld to unleash their back catalogue and if they ever feel like releasing a smartphone. well.. they've got their back log of games.

In the short term, it would create a lot of money but he's not thinking long term at all. Nintendo aren't desperate for cash or anything even if the wii u was a overwhelming success.

I wouldn't mind playing Link to the Past or Pokémon Yellow on my tablet without having to use Emulators.

    I don't see a problem with it.

yes lets port all games that were on systems with buttons to systems without any buttons at all!

It would only bother you if you're picky.

And I'm not particularly picky, so.....

Further alienate console owners by selling games on tablets and phones for cheaper. VC/eshop officially rendered superfluous. Yeah, that'll save Nintendo...
