With Gran Turismo 6 now out, 2013 is officially over as far as game releases go, which means it’s time to look ahead to 2014. With new consoles here and the promise of exciting new franchises, 2014 promises to be a pretty big one for gamers!

So what are your most anticipated games for 2014? Here are mine. What do you think? Share your thoughts below and tell us what you look forward to playing most in 2014.

Destiny

Release Date: Beta Q1 2014/Launches Q2 2014

So this is an action role-playing first-person shooter … or something. I saw it at E3, although am yet to go hands-on. This could be Activision’s big new franchise alongside Call of Duty, and with Titanfall coming from the guys that made CoD4 (but published by EA), Destiny could really ramp up the competitiveness in the genre. Destiny is described as a “shared game world”, so it’s kind of like that always-online experience we’ve seen in games like Brink. Although I assume (read: hope) it’ll perform better than that. Bungie says the game world will be “alive”, although we preview we saw was anything but. It looks cool and I’m hopeful. It’s Bungie, after all.

Titanfall

Release Date: March 13, 2014

You may have heard the comparisons and similarities. They’re all true: Titanfall feels like Call of Duty … meets Mirror’s Edge … meets anything with mechs. It’s fun, fast and explosive, and has all of the satisfaction of a Call of Duty game before they all got really boring. This is from the guys that helped make the original Call of Duty 4, and from what I’ve played they’re bringing a lot of what they learnt working on that franchise to this new one from EA.

Check out my preview and interview.

The Division

Release Date: Q4 2014

A disease spreads on Black Friday that consumes the US in five days. It’s called “Mass consumerism” (lol). No but seriously, this latest Tom Clancy entry, coming to next-gen consoles and PC, is an MMO in which players join forces to “save what remains”. We haven’t seen much but it sounds promising.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Release Date: Q2 2014

I’m just going to leave this here.

Quantum Break

Release Date: TBC

Remedy produced one of the best experiences for me last generation with Alan Wake. I have faith that they can deliver again with this game. It's set in the fictional North Eastern U.S. Riverport University where a time travel experiment has gone wrong, giving the three main characters, Jack Joyce, Beth Wilder, and Paul Serene the ability to manipulate time. It will also have a tie-in television series.

The Order 1886

Release Date: TBA 2014

This game is set in an alternate universe, where a group of knights protect the world from half-bred monsters. The trailer produced some nice and intriguing CG moments but we haven’t seen gameplay. Still, it’s set during a fascinating time period -- despite being “alternate” -- and is being made from the ground up specifically for PS4. One of my most anticipated PS4 exclusives.

Sunset Overdrive

Release Date: TBC 2014

This open-world shooter from the Insomniac guys sounds like a mix between Mirror’s Edge, Brink, Crackdown and Left 4 Dead. Do you really need anything else to convince you? The trailer has a cool art design, but I need to see this baby in action!

Black Tusk project

Release Date: TBA

One of Microsoft’s new studios, many at first thought Black Tusk was working on the next Halo. It’s not, but was instead tasked with created a franchise that can compete with Halo. Interesting. Checking out this trailer. 2014 is probably a pipedream, though.

Watch Dogs

Release Date: Q2 2014

I played the PS4 version of this at Gamescom, and I’m pretty confident that Ubisoft can iron out any graphical issues when it launches. The delay may have been the best thing for this game. But it plays and looks great (really, it does), and it should mix up the open-world genre. Hopefully this franchise can turn into the new generation’s Assassin’s Creed.

South Park: The Stick Of Truth

Release Date: March 6, 2014

Has anyone played this game yet? Does it matter? I saw gameplay at Gamescom, and I haven’t laughed that hard at a game since … well, forever! It blends some really interesting RPG gameplay and mechanics with hilarious South Park humour. A must-have for fans of the series, and certainly one of the most interesting games of 2014.

I dunno... trying not to think that far ahead as I'm so far behind on the 2013 stuff.

Sounds like a lot of good stuff is coming our way next year, but as a Nintendo fan-boy I'll be looking forward to seeing what they throw our way. It's probably to much to ask for that X will come out next year, but that's probably the game I'm most exited for in the future... oh and Last Guardian :P

-Definitely looking forward to see how Bungie delivers Destiny,
-Mario Kart 8, although I'm sceptical as to how long they can continiue to make them and still make them good,
-The Witcher 3, I never played any Witcher games but from the footage I saw from E3 and from what I've read about it this game looks awesom
-Definitely will give Watchdogs, Titanfall and Quantam Brake a go.
-Also SSB Wii-U/3DS (That's next year right?)

Not even going to look at South Park.

Will Smash Bros be released this 2014?
  • MezFunky 1124 XP 10/12/2013
Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8 and Donkey Kong will make the Wii U worth having.

South Park is my current most-anticipated though. The 3-part episode they just did leading up to it was fantastic.

And Watch Dogs looks pretty damn good.
  • gamerguy 5430 XP 11/12/2013
What!!!! No Dark Souls 2 in the list!!!!
  • Blob 40778 XP 14/12/2013
And nothing on Wii U or handhelds or Japan in general (outside of MGS) was mentioned.

    Lol.
  • Lo33 5133 XP 16/12/2013
add fallout 4 to my list

    1. Halo (a most anticipated game for me in 2014, looking forward to Master Chief saga)
    2. Titanfall (game that got me onto xbox one)
    3. Mario Kart 8 (game for everyone and a must for kids and adults alike that love kiddie stuff)
    4. Destiny (not certain how it will play next to halo and titanfall at this time, but seems interesting)
    5. Smash Bros (a game I got Wii u for but might lose interest by the time it comes out as i did for Wii and never got it)

?. Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare (a shooting game for kids, possibly might get it if it plays well, but already too many shooting games above so will need to cut out one or two possibly)

?. Donkey Kong, Quantum Break, Sunset overdrive and South Park look interesting
