Ubisoft only interested in games that will become franchises

Get ready for Watch Dogs 2: Ubisoft says it's not interested in making new games that won't become long-running franchises.

Ubisoft VP of sales and marketing Tony Key told The A List Daily the publisher won't even look at one-off games.

"That's what all our games are about; we won't even start if we don't think we can build a franchise out of it. There's no more fire and forget – it's too expensive," said Key.

"We feel like we're in a really good place with Watch_Dogs, but until we're the biggest game of the year we're not going to be satisfied."

Well you can create a franchise without milking it...but yeah, it'll probably end up being the Assassin's Creed of next gen.

Well that's disappointing......I guess gaming is going to become more and more boring with strategies like this.

Hmm... if by franchise they mean "yearly sequel", then yes I'm disappointed. If they treat this like, say, Splinter Cell (with a new game every 3 years or so) or Rayman, then I'm good. (*)
