I got a sub and amp installed in my car over the weekend, nothing massive but enough to get some extra bass. Didn't take up my whole boot space either which I'm really happy with.

Boot space is one reason I haven't even considered a sub or amps, there's been a number of times where I have had my boot completely chockers. I would like to install new higher quality speakers all round and run them off an amp but have no idea where to mount the amps without it becoming a waste of space.

i had a plan to put them in my vr but it never came true. i would have put them on the back of the rear seats either side of the centre folding seat so you can still use that. you can cut out a piece of wood or something to screw them on to and hide the wires behind.

you can also buy fibreglass sub boxes that are designed to fit in the rear corners of the boot, taking up minimal space.

other option would be to mount them under the front seats if you have the space but you would have to put some kind of protector to stop people kicking them from behind

I like the fiberglass sub box idea, don't think I could do the under seat thing since I have electric seats.

I don't get car audio. There's a $4k system in one of our work cars and it still sounds shit. Unless the audio is offensively bad it seems like a money pit...

Must not be set up correctly :S
Usually the main speakers replaced with aftermarket ones powered by a matched amp and head unit sound worlds above most stock systems.
They have gotten a lot better since the 90s though and you'd be hard pressed to find glaring omissions in current gen models.

Its better than stock, its just not even in the same planet as good considering the spend. I've never heard a car where I've thought it sounds good, always "good for a car". Ultimately its probably impossible given the reverberation and cabin design, probably not much you can do about it.

Pretty much I'm probably expecting too much, but for $4000 id sort of expect it to equal a pair if $400 Audioengine speakers. It doesn't.

It took me over a year to get the EQ and amp volume for the sub balanced right in my old Laser, once it was right though omg it was sexxx. I wasn't running anything special, just a base model Pioneer headunit with 4 base model Pioneer 6" 2-ways and a donated 10" sub and amp. got my Lancer like a month or two later but for those last months I cranked the **** out of it [MOG]

I want the speakers changed in my Lancer and probably the doors dynamatted. A sub/amp is too hard with the wiring in my car because I want to use the stock headunit I'm trying to get away with not having one by investing in good speakers.

The drive home nearly ended in a crash thanks to some inbred Camry driving retard. In an 80k zone as we are approaching the lights it JUST turned orange and this idiot decides to slam their brakes on. I hit the breaks and I knew I was going to hit so I had to dive into the other lane. There was enough time for me to chop most of my speed off, get around the Camry, go through the lights and they were still orange. People like that should not drive in the wet... and no I want tail gating the car, I wasn't in a hurry.

Dude. Not even joking. Exactly that happened to me today. Maroon Camry on Wellington road. I didn't have to do any evasive thank **** but I'm now aware my ABS works.

Saddest thing about this? As the crow flies I am like 2 blocks/300m maybe from my work and even in that space of time a Camry tries to kill me.

The only reason I could ninja into the next lane was because the guy next to me was going a bit slower and saw a gap at the last minute, plus I was turning right at the next street...100 bucks says the arse clown in front of me was not planning on turning right for another half hour and was just hogging the lane trying to kill people.

Camry drivers are a blight on Melbourne roads and need to be eviscerated. What really grinds me gears are the ones with those stupid family stickers on the back window. So they have children and drive like Kamikaze pilots? Man just once I would like to see a cop pull over someone that drives like that.

i dont like the drivers with 'baby on board' or some witty derivative of that on the back window.

what is that supposed to make me do?? try not to smash into you and kill you and your 'precious' cargo ??

Place the amp under the passenger seat and get shallow mount sub(s)?

You guys think your day was crazy.

I started the day with a dead battery. Just managed to crank my car over so I went directly to an auto electrical place nearby because I had finally come to suspect my alternator or battery and not my own forgetfulness was the cause of this one going flat.

Turns out the car had the wrong battery in it that didn't provide nearly enough charge to begin with, plus it was dying, so I bought a new battery. While all of this was happened a truck drove by and scraped along the back of my VH. The driver noticed his error, backed up, made his delivery and then took off without saying a word to me.

Had to call up the transport company to get them to send the driver back to give me his details. Fortunately I've only ended up with a damaged tail lamp and I'll be following it up with the company to get that replaced.

Over the weekend I was in Sydney for the V8 Supercar finale. Picked a pretty good spot to watch that one from again. I was glad it was nowhere near as hot as it was last year.

It's amazing how much damage a crappy battery can cause, even a lose terminal can cause dramas.
