So when Starcraft 2 came out I was addicted, I've played the first one when it was first released and it has an awesomely imaginative campaign and excellent multiplayer.
As my partner is a dedicated Starcraft player, we played quite often and after several months, I rose upon the noob ranks. Got all these hot tips for hot keying and build orders from the SC2 strategy guide. Then finally, I got into Gold league (most probably carried by the bf's pro-ness but irrelevant). And then I quit.
The thing about Starcraft, is that you have to play a LOT to stay at that rank, because people consistently will overtake you on the ladder. Your rank refreshes every season so other people have the chance to rise to the top afterwards.
Anyway, so I had quit playing for about 6 months or so, and went to a LAN and got back into it with the partner and his friends. It came back to me really quickly and before we knew it, I wanted to play everyday. When we finally got ranked, we got ranked as Platinum which is the 2nd best rank there is (excluding Masters which is a whole different league on its own).
So impressed with myself, we kept on playing until we reached Top 25 in Platinum league (see screenshot). I was pretty chuffed with myself. Then we hit a point where we just could not go any further and kept on getting defeated. As two Terran, we have weak spots when it comes to air defense especially if we're focusing on a heavy military unit. We were okay against Zerg and Protoss, but when there were 2 Terran teams, we just kept on getting our ass handed to us.
And then came that fateful day, when we got beaten by 2 Terrans in a row and we dropped 11 points all the way to Gold League again.
That's my story of temporary awesomeness.
