Top 10: iPhone Games 2012
I have decided to create a new "series" of blogs titled 'Top 10: ---'. I will post a new Top 10 list every week.
This week, my Top 10 list will be for iPhone Games.
#10 - Labyrinth 2
Labyrinth 2 is a fun-filled game with a simple goal and a variety of levels. By tilting your iPhone screen, you control a chrome ball. As you tilt, your goal is to fit the ball in the black and white hole and avoid black holes, which will make the chrome ball travel back to it's original position.
The good thing about a game like this is that the levels are extremely different when it comes to difficulty. You have easy levels which simply involve moving the ball to the other side of the screen. But at the same time, you have levels in which you have to twirl your way through lasers, which when hit, will close a door that leads to the exit.
I would give Labyrinth 2 a
9/10
#9 - Bejeweled
Someone say something if this is not the greatest puzzle game of all time? *Silence*...
Bejeweled (iOS) is probably one of the best puzzle games ever invented, tagging behind Tetris and Columns! From the creators of Plants Vs. Zombies, PopCap, comes Bejeweled, a game where your goal is to blast through as many levels as possible by removing three gems of the same colour (this is done by swapping gems to create a group of three or more gems in a row - either horizontally or vertically).
I would rate Bejeweled with a
9/10
#8 - Action Movie FX
Have you ever dreamed of creating Hollywood Effects? With 'Action Movie FX' you can do it straight from your iPod Touch or iPhone. This game came out in January, and I have never seen a better effect program for iOS videos.
With dazzling effects and constant updates, how could this game not be awesome! I have always left a spare $.99 on my Apple account so I could buy a new effect pack when it comes out.
I rate Action Movie FX with a
9/10
#7 - Where's My Water?
While a crocodile-ish animal wants to have a shower, the water has run out! As the player, it is your job to try and transport the water from it's starting point into the poor crocodile's pipe. Along the way, you collect ducks (3 ducks per level, each rewarding one star each) and toiletries (which unlock awesome bonus levels).
It is incredibly addictive and there are multiple ways to complete one level. There are acids that will make the water dirty and unable to be transported into the crocodile's pipe. And there are so many more items which give each level it's own difficulty.
I give 'Where's My Water' a
9/10
#6 - Minecraft: Pocket Edition
A few months ago, I would not have included Minecraft: Pocket Edition on this list, but with the addition of awesome update features, I had to put it on this list. The recent updates have gained the game many more downloads.
At the moment, you can play Survival with many of the same features that the PC version has - mobs, wool, wood, trees and flowers (including blue ones!). Minecraft: Pocket Edition has really become much better in the last few months, and one day, we all hope that it will share the exact same features as the PC version.
I rate Minecraft: Pocket Edition a
8/10
#5 - Tiny Tower
Now who hasn't heard of Tiny Tower? In Tiny Tower, you are the manager of a large apartment building. As you gain levels, you gain 'bitizens', the little funny characters who rent your apartments. With bitizens, you must support their ranging lifestyles by opening different businesses in your building,
This game is a nice long-term game, which does not get tiring until you have many more than one-hundred floors. I have close to two-hundred and still have not lost interest in the game.
I value how Tiny Tower can put you in someone else's shoe. You are the building manager, you are the one in control of these many people. It's all up to you.
I rate Tiny Tower with a
8.5/10
#4 - Plants Vs. Zombies
Is it me, or is PopCap on a roll?
Plants Vs. Zombies is yet another game invented by PopCap. It first came out on the PC, and a sequel to it is in the making.
Plants Vs. Zombies is a stereotypical Tower Defense game with a slightly different layout compared to the usual Tower Defense games. In this game, you must defend your lawn against the zombies by planting plants, which will attack them with the little strength they have! If the zombies get too close to the plants, they will gnaw at it and eventually remove the plant. The levels range from easy to hard.
I rate Plants Vs. Zombies with a
9/10
#3 - Angry Birds
What was the chance that Angry Birds would not be included? None. Angry Birds is a physics game which involves the shooting of birds (via catapult) in order to kill the angry piggies which stole the angry bird's eggs!
Along the way, you can collect "Golden Eggs" which are bonus levels. They are a bit different from the normal levels. Though Angry Birds was created years ago, I included it on this list because I don't know a single person who owns a portable Apple device and does not own at least the lite version of this game.
I rate Angry Birds with a
9/10
#2 - Ski Safari
Yet another awesome game with simple gameplay! Ski Safari involves riding along mountains and hills, heading away from an avalanches which seems to chase you until it devours you. Game after game, there's a close call.
In a way, this game is similar to Tiny Wings, as you are running away from an oncoming disaster. But in Ski Safari, you can ride animals to make you ski faster, you can unlock different ski slopes and you can unlock different power-ups for the main character of the game, Sven.
Therefore, I rate Ski Safari with a
9.5/10
#1 - Cut The Rope
Though Cut The Rope was made a few years ago, the initial rush to download the application has not yet died down. In Cut The Rope, your goal is to get the piece of candy into Omnom's mouth.
At the start of each level, the candy hangs on a rope or a few ropes. You have to carefully cut each rope and use the available items to guide the candy into Omnom's mouth.
I rate Cut The Rope with a
10/10
Each of the games above has something in common - they are all of simple gameplay (except for Minecraft: Pocket Edition). But this simple gameplay makes each game awesome because there is less to understand and you don't get bored while playing the game so easily. Each of the games above are fun, and every single one has a unique quality, which sets them apart from the massive world of iPhone games.
