It all Started in the Late 80s when I was 6, My older brother had a friend he went to school with that lived literally across the road from us, on some weekends he was nice enough to let us borrow his Atari for a weekend or even a Week at times and the games that were always played were Frogger......
Yes Frogger Countless hours were spent on that machine when we had it, and it wasn't until he moved out when I started to have "Gaming Withdrawl" Symptoms. It would have been a good 3 months until me and my brother convinced my parents to get a gaming console, at first they said no, being a kid I didn't understand why we couldn't so eventually one day after coming home from school they surprised me with the Sega Master system 2 with built in Alex Kidd in Miracle world...
That thing became my new best friend, every chance I would get I'd be on it, playing day and night, and I even had finished the game 5 times before we bought our second game which was Shinobi, Now that game in comparison to Alexx Kidd was Harder and struggled to get through the 4th or 5th level, which lead to my next purchase being Sonic the Hedgehog, that game had my siblings wrapped around it also so for me to get in a game I would have to wait 4 turns before I got mine.
Anyways at that time we had a family friend who lived in the next street who had a Sega Master System also, and from then we traded games and would buy games that we didn't have so that way we get to play even more....
A few years had gone by and this Sega had been thrashed so my elder brother bought me the Super Nintendo along with Super Mario World and Street Fighter .....
Man did things change!!!!!! Mario got finished a good 3 times, but Street Fighter was a different story... that thing was literally thrashed. friends from school would come over to have a few rounds but no one could get the upper hand over me, until my sister came along and decided she wanted to try it out..Who does she pick? Chun Li and yep you guessed it she whopped my ASS, with a few rage moments being thrown around here n there, of course my all time favorite was Super Metroid.. I spent so many hours on that, even had a few late nights with my older bro in order to pass to the next section of the game, those were the times.
At that time all my friends except 1 had the Super Nintendo, my other friend had the Mega Drive, so I reckon he kinda felt left out with all the game trades between us, but only 1 had the Gameboy which I never really owned until recent.
Now that I'm writting this blog it's actually taken me back down to memory lane and has opened up alot of memory which I had forgotten, like the time when my friend gave me his gameboy to lend on my trip to Sydney, (went by car) the only game he had was Tetris which he gave to me and that was pretty much on for 90% of the drive there. so much battery was wasted on the trip I reckon my parents spent more on batteries than they did with fuel.
Anyways leading into the next console I continuously swapped my console to help fund my next consoles, and who was my main supplier? you probably guessed it, my older brother, we went down to "Video Games Heaven" to trade in for a Sega Saturn which we only had for a few months until I swapped my friend for his PS1, and the reason for this swap was all because of Resident Evil 2.... that was an incredible game at the time.... after I built up a solid collection of games It was time to move onto the next being the Nintendo 64 along with Mario 64 and killer Instinct, and yes my Bro funded this too
:P
it wasn't until then after the Nintendo 64 I had to calm down on gaming due to my schooling and that was when I met my missus.. I took a massive break from gaming which lasted about 6 months to a year I suppose but after meeting my missus family I got back into the gaming scene because her younger brother kept on yapping about the N64 which a few years after I ended up getting my PS2 and since then I have a been a major player in the gaming scene, it probably sparked even more when I picked up my 360 on launch.
and it wasn't untill a year ago I started to get back into Retro gaming for a few reasons and not only to relieve my childhood but to also buy the consoles and games I missed out on. such as the Gamecube, Dreamcast, GBA just to name a couple.
Now my collection sits pretty firm and loving it, even just having them there I sometimes come in my room and stare at them, and one thing which I like is my kids also get a chance to play some old school Mario and Sonic just to name a few.
anyways that's my Supercoolstorybro
