Higgs Boson Explained

As some of you may know the elusive Higgs Boson particle was found just a few days ago. After years of searching there was finally proof that yes Higgs exists. So you may be asking is why does this matter at all, what does it mean, does it have any present day application to me, or should I care? Well I will address all that and more through out this blog.

Well lets start off with a basic explanation of what particle physics is. Well you can, just like in physics, always continue to break things down into a smaller unit therefore physics is basically how the universe interacts with itself and a particle is the basic unit that everything is made up of. You have basically 12 particles and each particle has a symmetrical partner so all together their are 6 pairs of particles this is called supersymmetry. Each pair acts differently when affected placed in the theoretical Higgs Field, which basically is part of the universe it is one of the layers that make it up it is everywhere the universe is. Everything in the Higgs Field has mass, it has a certain amount of matter with in it. Until just a few days ago all anyone could do is theorize why. Why couldn’t something have no mass yet still exist in the physical realm. (In my personal view it can and I think there is more evidence for that than anything that has existed, does exist, or ever shall. I would argue that things exist out side the of the Higgs Field and the universe itself, because I am die hard Jesus Freak. But that, is an entirely different subject. Any questions that involve things inside of these parenthesis can be answered through sending me a message @092745 I would be overjoyed to answer them, excluding hate mail. :) ) That question can be answered in one way some particle must be having the effect of adding mass to anything and everything. There has to be something, some binding particle holding all in-organic substances together (I say in-organic because the Higgs Boson of organics has already been found and recognized. It is called laminin, and if you want evidence of there being things out of the physical realm google image search it and remember this Bible verse Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.) The problem to the answer is would be, what is the particle?

Well it would be easy just to say Higgs and Boson and leave it at that, but sadly science refuses to let us work like that. We have to have proof. There are always skeptics. And no one could prove the other wrong. The things was that the arguments of both sides where so incredibly similar that it took trillions upon trillions results to prove anything.

It wasn’t until now that they proved it by throwing billions upon billions of particles at each other at trillions of kilometers per hour giving them millions of results that really didn’t prove much. The next problem, in our ever expanding list, is that you can’t tell what exactly happened. The reaction is so fast that you can only tell two things what went in and what came out. This is because it decays into two different particles and those particles could easily be made by some other object that is in the intermediate state. So it could be Higgs, but it very well might not be. then they finally found that magic blip on the screen that showed yes it does exist.

So far all the questions asked at the beginning..... It doesn’t, not a lot, nope, and not really. So yep this really only matters if you are a physicist or me. Thanks for reading. And all suggestions and comments would help. I am not entirely sure on the majority of this so correct me at any point I am wrong.

here is a link to a video where i got all of this from www.youtube.com/...
I read somewhere that if we can utilise the boson it is possible to map the universe. Is this possible?

EDIT: yeah, apparently it can be used to do imaging of mass, and hence map the inside of the planet and the universe.

not sure about it though.

same here it is shaky science but it is still interesting
Great read. I really try to understand what it's all about, and I watched the announcement but found it very difficult to actually understand what they were talking about.

I like watching tdarnell on YouTube. He has really great videos and does a fantastic job of explaining it all. Not sure if he's done a Higgs Boson video recently, but he's definitely worth checking up on. He has some AMAZING videos about the universe.
